  Drug and Alcohol Use on site

Since Jericho's post reminded me that we should similarly send a reminder out (I have copied their announcement almost verbatim, since it applies in the same way at our game and sites, however there are some notable additions):


A reminder that we have a zero tolerance policy in regards to alcohol and illegal drug use on site during LARP events. Dan and I are more than sympathetic to people who may use certain herbs or other prescriptions to combat anxiety or other ailments but in order for you to be able to do this at event you must have a prescription from a doctor and it must be registered with our medical marshals. (And thank-you to all who have done this already.) 

This isn’t a personal decision. It's an insurance requirement, and we need to enforce this rule to keep our coverage. Further to this, there is a good likelihood that if the owners of Peacekeeper Park find out about this, we likely will not be welcomed back. Peacekeeper Park and Lake Whittaker are regularly and frequently used by other people, which includes scout groups, youth groups, military groups and families. People come through and use the site often enough while we are there, and the guards at Lake Whittaker do regular spot checks, so it is not unlikely that any use of alcohol or drugs will be noticed by others who will report this to the owners and likely the police. 


If you are caught under the influence, drinking or taking drugs, while at a Ralinwood event, you will be removed and/or  suspended/banned. For extreme cases the police could be notified, and we as a group could be banned from the site.


It's not worth it, don't do it.

  Cabin Rentals (Peacekeeper Park)

Through the summer events, we'll be renting a cabin as well as individual bunks.

Bunk: $10

Private Half Cabin : $75

Private Cabin: $150

There are three cabins up for rent - Cabin 1, Cabin 2, and Cabin 4. Each cabin has 6 bunk beds for a total of 12 bunks. The person or group who rents the full cabin will get Cabin 4, and a half cabin will get Cabin 2. (Cabin 2 is the cabin with the partition wall down the middle.).  

All the cabins have electricity and heat.

We expect players to remain IG in their cabins.

PAYING
You may reserve or pre-pay for a Cabin or Bunk. You can pay on site at logistics or pay in advance online to guarantee yourself a spot.

LOCKS
Cabins may not be locked unless an IG lock exists. Locks will work on the cabins as they are permanent structures. The lock must be approved by a marshall, tagged and repped appropriately as per the rulebook. Cabins may never be OOG locked. 

COMBAT
Combat in cabins is permitted but we ask that you be mindful of the building and furniture. 

STEALING
The rules for searching someone's possessions in a cabin are the same as in a tent - you must have a marshal present. If you are not one of the individuals renting the cabin, you may not enter without a marshal or renter present, or without a renter's invitation. As with tents, we ask that you clearly mark your OOG possessions with something white.

  Rules/ Database Updates

Announcements regarding the new rules and Rulebook:

PRELOGGING / LOGISTICS
Due to the (massive) changes that have occurred in the Rulebook, we will be using a new database for prelogging, BUT THE SAME OL' WEBSITE WILL STILL BE USED. It should look and act in exactly the same way, your logins should all work. If the login doesn't work, or if there is a TECHNICAL issue, please email TECHNICAL ISSUES ONLY to logistics@underworldralinwood.ca. The database is currently being updated but once it is good to go Log team will open prelog and we'll be off!

Daniel will be handling how rules and character changes are handled. If you have any concerns about your character or how the new rules will apply, please email: daniel@underworldralinwood.ca


NEW RULES: NOW, EFFECTIVE!

The new rules for spells and abilities will come into effect THIS weekend, therefore, we expect people to start using them in place of the old rules! However, due to the massive (MASSIVE) changes that have occurred in the Rulebook (MASSIVE), and the fact a whole new set of incants can be hard to remember, there will be a small grace period for using old spell incants. Basically, if you accidentally use the old incant, the spell will not be effective however, the spell slot will not be used up. You will get a re-do. The grace period will be in effect until this weekend only, then after that, the old incants will be marshalled as miscants.

  Paying For Game, Unlocks and Transfers

Paying for Events

To pay for a Ralinwood event you may do the following and still receive benefits of attendance (e.g. CP, etc):

1.Pay cash at logistics and attend the event.

2.Pay cash at logistics and immediately leave the event.

3. We do not accept debit/ credit on site. You must bring cash or pre-pay.

4. Electronic pre-payments may be sent to:
Email-transfer prepay to ivanna@underworldralinwood.ca
Paypal: Paypal.me/ralinwood

5. Prelog and prepay for an event (via email E-transfer, see below) and not show up.

6. Pay cash for another player at logistics who is attending the event and is with you at logistics.

7. Pay for another player at logistics who has already prelogged, and is not attending the event

8. Lastly, you may pre-pay for multiple events or even an entire season if desired.

You may not

1. Receive the character card of anyone else but you. Even if you’ve paid for their game. If someone has crafted an item for you, or you’ve earned money via craftsman skill, it is the player’s responsibility to pick it up at game.  

2. Apply more than 2 blankets on 1 character per month. You may blanket each character only once a month.


**Note that we consider events that you have paid for but don't attend as "attendance". If every character who attended the event takes a death or gets race-changed, you will too. If you have a special promotion that kicks in, or are suffering an event suspension, paying but not attending counts toward them.

  New Character Creation Fee

Hello all!

Character Creation Fees (to create a new character) will be raised this year to $15/character (up from $10/character).

The change is effective the first weekend event (May 20th). This means any NEW characters being played for the first time in May (or going forward) cost $15 to unlock.

For new players, that fee can be waived for the first event and can be paid on the second event. We want new players to experience UW without having to pay any upfront fees, and if they find it’s not their thing, they have spent nothing. Getting a payment system up is going to be a little rocky at first. Payment can be made to Garotte Productions via Paypal and E-transfers. Ralinwood will also take payment in cash for those that can’t pay online. New characters can be created but will be locked and unable to spend blankets until the fee has been processed and approved.

Payment can be made to Garotte Productions at any time during the month and they will unlock your character at that time. To simplify prelog, any Ralinwood characters who are still locked at the open of prelog for an event will be assumed to be paying the fee in cash. They will be unlocked at Ralinwood's expense and their owners will be able to pay the creation fee to Ralinwood at game.

If you do not wish to pay in cash at game, you may send your character creation fees to payments@larp.ca.

The little raise in the fee will help support Underworld, and may be used to increase the number of smoke bombs and flying machines at Warcry! Or something like that, I make no promises!

  New Ownership for Ralinwood

In NPC camp last summer, you might have walked in on me mainlining coffee, pumping breast milk and signing tags. If you did, I’m so sorry. I wish I could pay for your therapy. If your therapy is going well, you probably appreciate how hard it is to juggle new motherhood and small business.

When we created Ralinwood, the dream wasn’t to be business owners; it was to have larp friends close to home and to get the best of LARPing while also building our family. The community is built and ever-building. Baby number two is arriving this summer and there’s no way Anthony and I can give our game the care it deserves while keeping up with two kids under two. Instead, we’re going to hang up our owner hats and finally run, fight and hide with all the friends we’ve made.

Looking for a new owner with enough business savvy to run the show and who also truly loves Ralinwood felt daunting when we first decided to sell, but Dan Finn and Ivanna Iwasykiw stepped up and they’re everything we could have hoped for. I’m going to spend the rest of the season (and as long as it takes, really) working with them to make this a graceful transition for owners and players alike. You’ll have all the same shapers, the same log team, the same marshals. The show will go on.

Thank you to all of you, for all of this. When our players visit other guilds, I take so much pride in the costumes, the combat, the role play and the sportsmanship they’re bringing with them. I’m truly looking forward to PCing with you all. Dan and Ivanna, thank you. I know how tied to this guild you are and I know you’ll be incredible owners. And please don’t kill me too quickly.

  Policy: Approaching Crossplay Appropriately

LARPing involves pretending to be something your not. Sometimes, you're a human man named A------ playing a human man named A--- and there is nearly no imagination needed. Sometimes, you're a human playing a savar. It is your right as much as everyone else's. You do your best to make yourself look like a bipedal feline and it's up to everyone else to respect that you are what you say you are.

How is this the same as crossplay? Sometimes you're a man and you want to play a woman, or a woman and you want to play a man, or you're both or neither and decide to play one or the other, or you're one or the other and decide to play neither. You do your best, and everyone else has to do theirs. You are allowed to play any gender and any gender expression that you'd like. Your choice is nobody's business but your own.

Belittling your fellow players is never acceptable. It's none of your business to decide what sort of character your peers should or shouldn't play. It doesn't matter if you think they did it well or not. If I find anyone attacking crossplay or crossplayers, I will find you and dismiss you from site and you will be invited to try again next game.

Exclamation Underworld Wide

As many of you may or may not know, we've been working on a global website and forum for our international community to gather, read news, discuss the game and a plethora of other amazing topics. While we're not 100% complete, I'm happy to open up the first leg of this project with our Underworld Wide forums. Currently only our Announcements and OOG forums are up and accessible. I encourage you all to join, create an account and contribute to the conversation. There are some very important topics that we will be discussing including policies for all Guilds, News on World Plot and methods to pull our various guilds together into a single family. We have the best community of LARPers I have ever seen. The world is seeing it too. We're growing fast and we're not even advertising. Almost all of this attention is because of you, our global playerbase and the awesome things you accomplish. This Global forum will help us stay on track if things get complicated.

Please note that accounts will need to be approved before they will be given posting access. You will need to include your real name as well as your Guild House. Additionally I'm currently the only one approving members, and since we're likely to get a very large influx of new accounts once I post this, have some patience.
Future updates to the forum will include a Buy/Sell Market OOG, an IG message board for players to leave notes on, a global rules team, a World Shaper team and a private forum for Guildmasters. Stay tuned!

The template for the forum is likely going to change over the next couple days as our webmaster finds something more stable. Posts won't disappear but the scheme and colours might get wonky for a bit.

  Gaining a Vocation

Registration:
If a player wishes to register their apprenticeship, they must send an email to the Shaper team while CCing the player who will be taking on the role of mentor.

Time Requirement:
Once a player has registered an apprenticeship, they will be required to apply 3 blankets to their character. The event following the application of their third blanket, the apprentice will have completed their apprenticeship. At this point if the apprenticeship has completed the RP requirements set out by their mentor, the player will be allowed to spend the required Frags and take on their new vocation. Using this system a player may spend many events working under their mentor, but may complete their training in a minimum of three events.

Role Play:
To complete their training, an apprentice must participate in role play elements as outlined by their mentor. The mentor is encouraged to get creative with their role play plans, but they should send a short outline to the plot team for approval. 

Some suggestions for role play elements include:

  • Short training sessions
  • In game objectives or tasks
  • Passing on a code of honour

Gaining a Vocation:
Now that the time commitment and role play elements are finished, you are free to take on your new vocation. Send an email to logistics@underworldralinwood.ca and have them update your character card. Remember to manage your soul frags as a new vocation costs 150 frags.

Out of Game Policies

Age Restriction
Underworld's age restriction is 18 years of age. We expect all players to be mature enough to conduct themselves in safe manner while in an outdoor, natural environment. Often, the game is played after dark. It is important that all players understand the inherent dangers involved and do not become so carried away as to place themselves or others at risk. Chasing people through the dark woods, climbing trees, or traversing ravines, though usually harmless, can be very dangerous if people are not respectful of their environment.

Mature Content
Everyone, who wishes to play should be aware of mature content, in the form of "medieval speak". Often, players will speak of "wenching, brawling, or battles" while in character. Sometimes, depending on the player, the expletives can be quite colourful. While Underworld does not encourage this, we do not prevent it. Underworld is a game designed by adults for adults to play.

In addition to this, people should be aware of the fact that the Underworld Larp sometimes runs plots that contain mature subject matter and challenging social issues. Though they are tastefully presented (and done so with "growth of opinion", not shock, in mind), some people may take offense or become uncomfortable when becoming involved in such plots. We respect your right to leave the plotline if you wish to do so, and we respectfully encourage you to discuss the issue with us afterwards. Though we will not change our policy, we will happily explain what the motivation and purpose of such content was to the story, and why we felt it effectively and appropriately used.

Religion
Underworld LARP allows for a character to belong to one of several different "faiths" if they choose to do so. These faiths are entirely fictional in intent. Do not attempt to parody or mimic any real world religion.

We will be most displeased with you as you will no doubt upset many of our other players. This element has been included in the game to enhance the gameworld and to allow players to explore issues of good/evil/honour/truth/faith, etc. in an intelligent way. We expect any player who chooses to develop their character in this direction to give the subject matter of "faith" the respect it deserves. Underworld has NO religious affiliations, nor do we wish to foster ANY impression that we do. It is simply allowed in-game to enhance roleplaying. In addition to this, we wish to point out to our players that some real world faiths require for certain dress and/or formalities. Underworld is respectful of these practices and requires that all of our players are as well.

Substances and Alcohol
Illegal drugs are forbidden at game. You will be asked to leave the event immediately if you are caught using or possessing them. Our insurance does not allow for the consumption of alcohol while playing at an event. Do not bring it to the site.

There are only 2 exceptions to the no substance rule:
  1. Smoking is allowed at DESIGNATED areas.
  2. Sometimes we will allow a player (19+) to bring wine for use in cooking (stews, etc.), but we only approve it when the player notifies us in advance and shows us the wine in question.
Vendors
Underworld LARP is very happy to offer our players the chance to sell their product, services and wares, while at our events. We recognize that much of everything that gets sold, in one form or another, benefits the game. Because of this we're able to offer players the privileged to sell your product and make profit as a direct result of the Underworld LARP event, for a very small vending fee. Vending fees are broken down into 24 hour periods. A 24 hour table is $10 while a full weekend table is $25. Please see the Payment policy for ways to pay. Underworld LARP reserves the right to refuse any vendor if their services or product is deemed to be harmful or detrimental to the game in anyway. Players or staff found to be making profit off services or product without a vending license will be subject to disciplinary action including the possible ejection from game. Vendor fees are not refundable. Please note this only applies to players making profit with real life currency. In-game sales for in-game money are unrestricted.
