Event Reviews: Memento Mori (All Hallows)
#21
And the year comes to a close. It was wonderful to have shared this fun with all of you!

+ Great Armbands guys!
+ Costumes at event are pretty top notch PC’s and NPC’s alike
+ Good mix of terror for a hallows
+ Always good to have wonderful tent mates and visitors in the night
+ Orc cuddle pile on my front lawn… *tarps it* what was lost in vision was sure as hell made up for in sounds…
+ Good smith business and friendly competition
+ Yes I would like to fight in my tent
+ Grim in his prime “Come at me Bro!”
+ Endless ranting in town center, you’re all great sports
+ Szhmhlaer, Levi, and Leons wonderful bush, and woods adventure extravaganza
+ Firbolg costume bar has been set and is freaking high
+ Get tarped Justin and thankyou for the Red armband RP
+ Brian, your story made my night
+ Szhmhlaer and Levi are damn heros for protecting those tablets. I know it wasn’t easy but the town owes you a great debt
+ NPC and shaper team gave it their all

- Saturday became a day of mods every couple hours, not a bad thing at all but roaming monster during the in-between became scarce. None of you could rotate break time so it seemed you were either all on of all off.

- The town went through the wringer to end the vampire before the sun set and the reward of the efforts weren’t really felt as constant roaming monsters of various danger levels seemed to have no end and no late night mods to possibly remedy the chaos.

- Monster kiting, many Pc’s were running for their lives and on a number of accounts Banshee’s and Hell hounds overlapped and all sensing for life in their chase. The hell hounds were unfortunately ignoring all sense calls. I believe it was miscommunication to the npc hounds but they are considered living and targets of the undead. This would have giving players a chance to creatively deal with their pursuers.

Had a blast everyone!

Leon, your favourite smith!

I concur. Mark.....you did a great job. Still think you need to do a voodoo thing or work bones into some of the things you are doing since it would look very cool for you to be doing and you could pull it off. Much likes

Ok....Absolutely loved All Hallows. The feeling of helplessness i felt when swinging at monsters and hearing no effect and the fact that even with almost 100 pts of armor i still ran and hid was insane. To the NPCs/Shapers stepping up the monsters a notch early game made the role player in me constantly thinking what do i do now. I did have some epic battles with some of you and it was exciting to say the least. Being swallowed whole by the Sea Monster was the highlight of my weekend though for sure. My only complaints are i saw a few things that werent what id deem safe and when i got to be part of the Sea Monster2 mod(as the fins!!!!)i felt the mod got cheesed by one spell(repel)...but good on the PCs for trying it and using it to there advantage. I already long for next season to be here...Maeven may have had a "poopy" weekend...but i had the greatest time.

From the stories people told when I started years ago, this event was I expected for All Hallows. I have never been more scared at an event. (Sorry Jericho!) My girlfriend is pretty sure I have a few new grey hairs.

I loved renting the cabin, that was mostly great.

The costumes on the three ancient ones was GREAT. Unfortunately, I didn't see them at event really because of dark and running away. But having seen the pics afterwards... just WOW.

I really enjoyed deciphering the ancient scroll with Ludvic.

Kudos to Brian for being a champion logistics marshal all year!

My first all-hallows was a blast! Cannot wait for next game already!

Pros:
+ All the important NPC's were well repped and really freaky looking. *props to Sierra on that doll, holy fuck*
+ Good mix of monsters in with large groups. Monsters with a variety of thresholds made it fun to fight groups, since it was possible to kill things even without access to magic.
+ The executioner hunt mod was awesome and I'd love to go deep into the frisbee golf course more often.
+ Good use of the variety of combat tag skills. Trip, hamstring, cripple, as well as very fair carrier effects.
+ #PraiseCassan
+ 'Battling' the trick-or-treaters.
+ I couldn't help but laugh when Drak stabbed the 'Good morning Kobold'
+ Killing the Grim with Drak was friggen awesome! Big Grin
+ The Grim itself was well played, shouting infernal phrases I actually heard during the season, (I.e. "Come at me bro." and "Look at all that wind over there.")
+ Matt Weaver did an awesome job on the armbands, I'm still wearing mine around town.
+ RP during Zahk's final moments was intense.

Cons:
- For the love of whatever IG gods you find holy, PCs, stop shouting 'hold' when you mean 'stop moving' in game. It's confusing as all hell.
- A lot of injuries and bad swings this game. I myself caught the haft of an axe right in the bridge of my nose. Not fun.

Other:
+/- Zahkrii finalled during the final fight, so my first PC that made a lot of friends is now gone.

In conclusion:
I'm ready for next season already, and I can't wait to see everyone at high-winter! Big Grin

Dawww thanks everyone

Ok more detailed review

The Goods:
+Tied for best all Hallows of all time. The all hallows it tied with was my first all hallows at Jericho on the old Buckhorn site and that is my favorite event of all time!...So good job!
+Love being chased and hiding and it was done so well
+Friday night was awesome
+The Grim was awesome. I don't really care for the mechanics of it, but being hunted by a powerful demon and his hellhounds is scary as hell...also hiding under the bed was basically the best thing ever
+Bell ringing demon was awesome
+All the NPC's did an awesome job...shapers too!
+Logistics and marshaling was smooth and perfect as per usual with Ralinwood
+NPC Costuming was amazing
+The ghost reading the hand written journal!!! OMAHGAWD, it was scary, like weird Chuthulu scary, probably my all time favorite all hallows thing
Cons:
-My all time favorite all hallows thing being interrupted by zombies...couldn't they have waited like 15 minutes Sad
-Zombie pincer movement on the front and back of the cabin felt kind of cheesy as oppose to scary
-Not a big fan of sprinting undead, they kind of make things feel hopeless scary instead of "I still gotta chance" scary
-Really spammy on the "Sense Life" call. Maybe undead can only use it once per minute next time?
+Most cons are nitpicky things, I had a blast and can't wait for next event

Quote:-Really spammy on the "Sense Life" call. Maybe undead can only use it once per minute next time?

The 'spirit' of sense calls, as they have been explained to me, is to alert you to the presence of the things you are sensing, and give you a general idea of where to look. Once you get close enough that the 'here' responses are able to give you info like 'my prey is just in those trees somewhere' or 'just up the path but close' you generally look for them by eye or ear.

Its not really supposed to be sonar - but I know many experienced NPCs use it that way, even at Jericho, so people's ideas of how it should work are skewed. Sort of like the debate we had earlier in the year about render and shields, we learn from the examples set for us.

Of course, I could be way off base with my assessment, but that is my $0.02.

Just remember - everything alive should sense as life, even hellhounds, The Grim, and etc.! Its hard to forget when you go out on an NPC role that NPCs and PCs shouldn't be treated differently. For example, on Friday night I saw a human bandit NPC conversing with another undead NPC with a spirit glowstick, pointing out where PCs were for the ghost to go interact with, when the NPCs didn't think any PCs would see them. These are all nitpicks, but something to keep in mind.

first all hallows, so first event npc weekend!
overall, it was pretty awesome, and i got a white band, so YAY. (also i am so glad we had nice weather!)

PRO:
THE NPC CABIN.

i had a lot of fun on all the mods friday night. being a big baddy with a threshold around a big group of pcs where only one could (or would?) hurt me was cool. i don't know how many people went down after i hit them a bunch of times, but yay.

i liked the sea monster! watching the first battle was amusing.

i had a good time being the ghost saturday night. it sucked not being able to run around or be anything more than that, so it was nice to still go out there and do some npcing. (and for everyone that told me i hated chairs... be more creative next time Tongue )

the angler murker! and the way muintir took care of me, great!

borrowing pat's camera. i got some super great shots, i tried to get some of everyone and it wasn't easy. all the pcs looked great! Smile

CON:
not sure if all the pcs were aware, but i saw on quite a few occasions when an undead would sense life and there would be no reply- i could hear them and the pcs around me could hear them, but the pcs would not reply. (i was not one of the undead creatures.)

maybe next time cover those rules again so everyone knows how they work?

the npcs who were the sea monster sunday i think should have spawned as demons later. since all the pcs were there, and we had so little npcs, it wasn't really fun or scary in that final mod.
