Event Reviews: Memento Mori (All Hallows)
#11
Glory to Cassan, Praise the First born!

First off, I am sorry to anyone I hurt with the cross bow! It was my first time using that kind of weapon and the strength of it was just something I couldn't handle and unfortunately ended with people getting hurt. I really am sorry!

Review time, honestly I have nothing bad to say so this is an all good list!
The Red Robin Family - you guys are the best family an orc could want!
All of the interactions with Cassan. Plot team you make me smile every time.
Surviving the all hallows monsters only to get ganked by PVP! Reminded me monsters aren't the only things to fear on the hallows.
Trying a large weapon fighter, who actually fought. It's so different from the support/runaway/sneak characters I've been playing.
All the mods! The mains ones were executed like clock work, the butcher, executioner, vampire all happened so fast I couldn't believe how quick those were to get ready/go out.
Immunity to fear. Best moment ever, "I WILL DEVOUR YOUR SOUL!" "...Well that's not nice." I could just see the struggle to contain the laughter.
Kyle's Tarot card deck thing- Everything about that was just perfect
Giving bandits hot chocolate and trying to distract them from robbing people
The bedtime book of Cassan's new pages! If this book ends up in your hands, feel free to add to it! Just make it Cassan-ie-ish!
NPC's giving me a break when I was having an asthma attack saturday night. All hallows for me is really just hide-hide-cry. But it really does make me feel grateful to get a bit of a break from NPCs when my body isn't giving one.
NICE FIGHTS! The Tarp nice fight was the best Orgy ever. Trick-or-treat kids wanting to nice fight was hilarious too.
Cassan blowing up my crossbow. I was feeling super horrible and guilty (And still do) but having the bow blow up was the funniest message from Cassan Zhliepir could have got.
A Young orc carrying around a book with bedtime stories.

I have to say this event has been my favourite LARP event in some time. There was an excellent mix of creatures that could be fought by everyone, by those with iron or silver or magic only, and those that required magic only. I have not run at a LARP event as much as I did this weekend and I am not complaining. I also want to say a very large thank you for the creepiness level that was put forth this weekend by the Plot team. Matt's monster Friday was extremely creepy and horrifying without being just a brute to fight. Sierra did an awesome job as the Doll. And, Angela as the Banshee had me running full out to get away from her and it took me some time to finally ditch her. The right choice of left or right saved me from her thankfully. And then.......there was the Grim. Mr. Flynn.......your hiding under one of the bunks and popping out from under it after we all thought we were going to be safe for a time and get a breather was awesome. To all the Owners, Plot members, and NPCs......thank you for making this weekend an awesomely entertaining one.

+ Emerald Company.....love you guys. Gaming with you guys rocks. Fighting beside you all and the RP surrounding the combat is great and I wouldn't trade it for anything.
+ The interactions with all of the PCs I had over the weekend was definitely enjoyable.
+ Killing the Grim! I was jacked to try to do it in Jericho as my character there, but, will not be attending the next game so was a tad disappointed in not being able to. Getting the opportunity to do so in Ralinwood and succeeding to do so was fucking awesome. Daphne's Bind and some help from Zack at the end to pin him between us was great.
+ Kids trick or treating was amusing
+ Openly PVPing two players for their transgressions and not being lynched by the camp they were guests of with having no back up close by
+ Keeping Iris and Daphne as safe as I could by getting them through some fairly heavy foliage
+ Being Daphne's hero lol Smile
+ Creepiness excellently provided by Plot and the NPCs as well as competitive combats and enjoyable RP
+ Plotting the start of The Killing Game and determining point values with Baseema Smile
+ Hiding out at various times with Daphne, Iris, Lanka, Zack, and a few others. The RP during these times when not having to be extremely quiet was enjoyable. Smile
+ Being attacked by imps in the cabin and not coming fully aware of what was going on until I was already on my feet and attacking Brian with my stiletto lol
+ Tarot reading in the cabin

There is more but my mind is close to mush right now.

I had a fantastic time. My body is broken. I'm sick with a fever. I went down a belt notch from all the running. My face hurts. My face hurts?

But I'm still smiling.

This season has been fantastic. I can list a hundred good memories or individual technical points, but I think that at the end of the day what it comes down to is this:

+ TLC. The plot team and NPCs are passionate about what they are doing, want things to be fun, scary, emotional. No one is checking a box, doing the bare minimum obligation. There is real love, effort, and a dedication to go above and beyond that makes PCing at Ralinwood so fantastic.

I mentioned no cons above but I would like to mention one now.

NPCs camping fallen PCs when the creature they are playing should not be intelligent enough to consider doing so. Skeletons and zombies should not be standing over a dying being to prevent others from getting to the being dying but should continue to go after the living. Even if "eating" a PC once a healthy PC engages them in any way the zombie, skeleton, or other lower form of undead should go after the "more alive" beings than the one that is clearly dying before them.

Same with animals. If an animal is "eating" someone and another potential threat comes along the animal will either attack the new threat to drive it off or run itself.

Camping a body dependent on the role being played is very not cool just to try to get PC kills.

This is event was so awesome that this is the first time I'm writing a review (love you Jericho but I was too new ro even know what was good or bad still)

This was actually one of the best weekends I've ever had. The balance of monsters was really great, lots of things for everyone to fight and I LOVE being an elementalist when there are undead around. I can hurt them myself AND I can help others hurt them!

PROS:
We killed the bell ringer!! It only took four hours of running and terror for us to finally get our acts together
All it took was a web and a magic killing blow. Let's do that combo again!
WE KILLED THE VAMPIRE!! MY PLAN AND ORGNAIZING WORKED. I've literally been giddy with glee since the vampire died. I know Flynn wanted to come terrorize us but hahahahhahahaha we did it!! Thank you everyone who listened to me and thanks esp to Rangir and Shado for putting me in charge. We did it!! I lead something!!
Trick or treating kids were hilarious.
Flynn the Grim you were terrifyingly awesome.
Running through the grass and trees to get away from Banchees and not eating dirt again. Success!
Hiding so effectively with so many first time players that people and NPC's walked past us.
Good stats on mauraders.
SERIOUS props to Kare for attempting to save Brennus for as long as you did. Your heart was so into it when I left to find anyone who may have a life I actually felt so sad.
Being allowed to barge into the locked down pavillions.

Favourite:
BRIAN/Story voice NPC outside Leon's tent: "Sense life?"
Everyone inside: *cringe* "Here?"
Brian: "Yes!" *reads story*
Everyone: Hurray!
Never been so pleased to hear a sense life call.

Doyly: "where do all the kobolds keep getting those horns?"

Con:
Brennus' staff broke as we encountered the Grey Man (Matt's thing) and Brennus and I were SO READY to smite a big bad. Seriously you would have died Matt.
I didn't get to see the Sierra doll Sad

Such a good balance of terror, fighting, amusement and success. You can really tell the shapers and plot worked hard to achieve a balance and it was nothing short of tremendous success.
Governor Miss Aminata Gomorrah, Daughter of House Gomorrah of the Council of Twelve, Governor of Ralinwood.
High elf female, blonde hair, blue or brown shoulder bag, red and black scarf on her belt, typically in a long skirt.

Overall was a great event. I could really tell a lot of heart and hard work went into it. However a particularly lame occurrence really ruined the weekend for me so I won't say much more.

After being on Plot at another UW chapter this year, I was really excited for this event. It did not disappoint. Thanks to all Shapers and NPCs who put so much time and effort into their stories and their roles. It made for great RP and your dedication really showed!

+ Being legitimately terrified on multiple occasions. Lots of memorable moments, but only one that really takes the cake:
* The Grey Demon! Waking up in the middle of the night to see you standing in the middle of the cabin, and having you crawl up to me in the woods were both pretty scary! Your costume looked sooo gooood!
* Midnight imps in the cabin! All I saw were dark shapes moving around towards us.
* Pursued by determined undead, then stranded in the woods! Like, deep in the woods. We were pretty sure we were never getting out of there.
* Fleeing undead, only to run into one big, tall undead...
* The Grim under the bunk, a foot and a half from where I was getting ready to bandage someone. I don't think I've ever moved so fast in my life. I was halfway to the tavern in about three seconds!

That said, a lot of people made this weekend worthwhile:
* Fire Emerald Company and Friends. Don't ever change. <3
* Hiding on the very edges of the site with parts of Emerald, the High Elves, and Silv and co.
* Drakkon, Daphne, Smaller, and Silvy, who saved me.
* All the Hospital staff. As soon as we get a life scroll, we'll be unstoppable!
* Brian's reading of the journal. I'm not certain which Shaper wrote that material, but it was both excellently written and performed. Bravos all around!

- Dying alone in a cold, dark field, and listening to people running nearby but no one coming close enough to see me. Iris has a real phobia now… sorry to all those who had to listen to her frequent panicked ranting.
- Not getting to hear the end of the journal. Damn you, cabin storming undead!
- Maybe it's just Iris who's broke, but I didn't see a lot of loot going out this weekend. I kind of expected at least a few life berries, or other useful magic things. This seemed kind of unusual for an All Hallows event. HOWEVER, it did create a much higher sense of danger, so I guess I can't complain too much.

Give a huge standing ovation to Matt Halpin who wrote and created the Journal. He spent hours writing with his calligraphy pen.

And Iris, we did put out magic items, I promise. Smile

Thank you guys for making this event come to fruition. Some of us have been designing monsters and making costumes since August, and it was so amazing to finally see them come to life. I really wish that there was even a little moon, so that our hard work on the costumes could be seen, but alas, it was not meant to be.

Please don't forget that you can send the owners any private comments about your cons, and PROS, because they love to read those too! contact@underworldralinwood.ca

I loved it. My only problem was not being able to attend the entire event, which obviously cannot be helped. It sounds like I missed some truly awesome things!

Some highlights:

+ Going after the Vampire in his coffin.
+ ...Running back to the coffin because some things were forgotten.
+ The Grim. I didn't get to see all of it, but it was terrifying enough with what I saw!
Piece of garbage fire looking Einher.

Okay, since I've had time to shower, sleep, eat, and think on it...

Pros: -Things could die, even if it took some serious effort
- It felt like a war of attrition, we were pushed back inch by bloody inch.
- Got some neat loot, which promptly lasted all of 2 hours. Sigh.
- Justin, Ryab, you two deserve a raise. I had a ton of fun interacting with you at the event.
-SO MUCH FOIG OMG

Cons: -NPCs were amazing most of the time, but sometimes fighting a skeleton felt like fighting a well trained fencer.
- So many holds, I understand a few of them were justified and I want people to be safe, but unless the person is too hurt to call it themselves, don't call it.
- A lot of immersion breaking from PCs.

Awesome moments: RYAB YOU GLORIOUS BASTARD
