LARP weapons, where to buy
#1
Ive been thinking about buying a nice latex weapon for a while now and when I finally did the Green Earth here has shipped all of their stuff to a different store GRRRR!! so Ive been wondering what other places are good to get LARP weapons? and Id love to not have to pay an arm and a leg for shipping for them....

Never having ordered online, I'm sure other people can answer this better than I can. Either case, I've talked many people who ordered from Epic Armory and told me that the shipping was cheap and fast. As far as their product itself goes, I don't think I've failed one yet that I can remember.

Epic armory makes nice weapons. I prefer calimacil (http://www.en.calimacil.ca/) since I feel like they last longer. There is also Ateliers Nemesis (http://www.ateliers-nemesis.com/index.php) which I think are higher quality and price.

Epic Armoury (linked above) is my favourite by far. They do need to be cared for more than Calimacil if you want them to live (ie: cleaned after the weekend and stored somewhere where they won't be smushed) but they're really attractive weapons and they hurt less when they hit.

I won't buy from anywhere other that Ateliers Nemesis, if I can help it. They require little maintenance (about the same as Calimacil) but, in my opinion look WAY better, and offer a variety of unique looks for LARPers. Though yes, they are more expensive than the others, but it is well worth the price.

I have had my sword for 1.5 years and have never cleaned, re-coated or maintained it in anyway, and it looks like I just took it out of it's original packaging.

I personally much prefer Calimacil to Epic Armory. I find EA weapons far too flimsy and delicate in comparison and the quality just isn't as nice. You do have to be a little bit more careful with Calimacil since they are a more rigid foam latex but over time they dull out quite nicely and they're durable as hell. I managed to get the tip of my polearm stuck in a car door on the ride up to Jericho once and there was quite the deep depression in it. Not 10 minutes later was it gone and the weapon looked as good as new and with no damage to the paint or foam. They're a bit pricy but a good buy.

Sorry to highjack a thread but I checked out Calimacil weapons and on the site it said they're foam weapons instead of latex, does that mean they would be considered thrust safe in underworld? (Assuming it passes the marshaling).

I am not a Weapons Marshal, but yes, a lot of Calimacil weapons are indeed considered thrust safe.

Please note that Underworld Ralinwood does not allow thrusting with any latex weapons.

I don't seem to be able to edit my post. But I forgot to add that Underworld Jericho is where you are allowed to thrust with latex weapons (so long as your weapon passes)

I know Ralinwood does not allow thrusting with latex which is why I asked about the Calimacil weapons being thrust safe since they are not latex Smile. Just curious because I thought about maybe getting one and I thrust a lot.

I use Calimacil and I honestly wouldn't thrust one at someone at Jericho either. Its a foaming rubber, which means the tip tends to want to naturally deflect more than compact. It won't maim someone, but if you get a little too much oomph behind it in the heat of battle, it hurts.

Love your NPCs. Follow the rules. Everyone is happy. No one has to make up stories about extreme sports accidents to explain their bruises and raw knuckles to their employers after a weekend at LARP.

Not that I know anything about that last one from personal experience or anything.
