There are many players who will be enjoying their first ever weekend events with us in a few weeks, and some experience players who may enjoy a brief reminder on how NPC shifts work at Ralinwood.
Who is required to do a shift?
Every player who has attended three events or more (excluding seminars and social events) is required to volunteer for at least one shift every event.
What do I get for volunteering my time?
You will probably have a pretty fun time playing the enemies for a little while, you will get to hang out with me in NPC camp, and you will get 5 Soul Frags!
Can I do more than one shift?
You sure can! you will also receive an additional 5 Frags for every extra shift.
How do I sign up for a shift?
Once log opens you will be able to choose your NPC shift using the database. When you log in and enter the prelog section, you will see an NPC Shift tab. Simply select the shift your prefer and you are all set.
What if the shift I want is full?
Shifts are filled on a first come first served bases with one rather large modification. As more players prelog, more shifts will open up. This means that you can check back through the course of prelog and maybe the shift you want will be available. Remember that if the shift you want is taken you should pick your next favourite. If you don't choose one you won't contribute to additional slots being made available.
What do I do when it comes time for my shift?
When your time comes simply head to NPC camp and make sure that you sign the attendance sheet attached to the whiteboard. Feel free to travel to NPC camp in your equipment if you feel safer, but don't worry about leaving items in your tent. Shapers will ensure that no one robs your tent while you are with us in NPC camp.
What if I am late?
Please do your best to make it on time to your shift, but know that we do understand it isn't always easy to keep track of time at events. If you are late we may ask you to extend your shift hours to make up the difference. Repeat offenders run the risk being assaulted by cabbages.
What if I miss my shift?
If you forget to attend your shift you should go to NPC camp and discuss if they can use you at another time. This is not a method to manipulate which shift you take, and you are expected to attend the shift that you sign up for.
What if I don't like to fight or perform other physical roles?
While the majority of our Shift NPCs go out on combat roles, we can always find RP and social roles, as well as other out of game tasks around NPC camp, that you can perform. Be sure to let a Shaper know if you would prefer these.
Is there anything I can do to not participate?
I suppose if you really don't want to do an NPC shift you can pay the opt out fee of 5 frag/$15. You will even see this as an option when you prelog.

I also have spent many happy years in Suvant.
