All Hallows Pre-Event Post
#1
Exclamation
Ralinwood! Your first All Hallows event is nearly here and we wanted to leave a little pre-event post for you all.

Please know that we want you all to have the most fun at All Hallows. That being said we feel like we should let you know that this event will be rough, scary and amazingly fun all at the same time.

All Hallows is actually where the Underworld motto “Run - Fight - Hide” comes from.

This is not meant to scare you guys into not attending and we really mean it when we say that this is the most fun you will ever have. Nothing gets your blood pumping more than running for life with a character that you are really invested in. Ask anyone who has ever attended an UW All Hallows. But we do know that you are here to have fun, and are paying customers, so we want you to have a great time and it is our mission to make sure that this happens.

With all that said, we several exciting plotlines planned that we would love to have you guys involved in. Some of them are heavy combat, and other are purely RP, but know that there is an overall storyline to this event, and we don’t want you to miss any of it!

Do any of our Veteran Players have any All Hallows stories they want to share?

You've heard of the Pantherghast, I'm sure…

One year my camp of six people (mostly elves, and my Ajaunti smith) were hiding in the woods. We'd set up our two tents and somehow managed to survive Friday night. It's Saturday, around 2am, and we'd been fending off attacks from roving golems for the last hour or two, thanks to a flurry of blows and an Elemental blade spell.

We had decided to settle down to sleep, since only the golems seemed to know where we were, and we thought we were pretty safe. Suddenly, the people in the other tent are screaming. The Pantherghast is opening their tent! I hear my campmates frantically trying to wake up the female elf sleeping in their tent, who miscants a hallucinate spell before the Pantherghast drops all three of them with death spells.

Silence. Then the door of my tent opens. The High Elf I'm bunking with grabs his weapon and tries to fend the creature off. I huddle under my sleeping bag and try to stay quiet. The Pantherghast reaches over me and deaths my High-Elf friend easily. I try not to panic. Then, since he can smell no more Elves, the Pantherghast leaves the camp as quietly as he entered.

That's when I bust out the life berry.

… Unfortunately my subsequent tear-blind walk into town to tell everyone the rest my camp has been killed was not as heroic as that moment.

My first larp event was an all hallows up in Barrie about 12 years ago. I dragged my wife along and she had just flown in from a job she’d been working in BC. I had all our stuff packed up and a couple of characters made up. I was a barbarian skald type character and she was a elf magic type.
We got to the site and set up a tiny 2man tent, logged in and went in game to find the area around the inn completely empty. I think I had like 12 armor and 4 body and Judy had a dodge 2 body and 6 armor, I had a sword that did 2 normal and she did 1normal. So we are wandering around the empty inn and a couple of undead show up. It is moving pretty slow so I figure I can take it, I try to hit it ..No effect! And it starts swinging back with 6normal.
“time to run hun”

So Judy and I run into the forest that we have never seen in daylight. There we encountered what I would refer to as a ninja skeleton. Hit for 1 normal, but I could hurt it, other than the fact it fought at a 15 on a 1 to 10 scale. We slowly chipped away at it for about 30minutes and it finally fell and turned to dust, alas no treasure for 30minutes of fighting. By now it was really dark and we thought we would go back to check out then inn. All we found were a few players that were now walking dead. So we just stood still in the dark near some palisade and listened. Really hiding almost in the open, just that it was so dark, if you didn’t move nobody could see you, but eventually we were chased out of town again.
There we encountered some players who were actually alive, but they proceeded to grab us, carve some flesh out of my chest, and then force fed me a forget potion, though they forgot to feed one to Judy, so she was able to fill me in on what happened after.
We then spent the next half hour lying on the ground looking up at the sky under a pine tree.
Then in the distance we could someone shouting for someone to return his heart. There was some barbarian with a huge sword holding a chain that the other barbarian was wearing as a leach. Given our last encounter with the locals, we decided to avoid these characters.
We then encountered what looked like an old woman in the forest, and though she was the scariest and fed on our flesh, she also healed us and showed us where to hide and actually spent time talking and role playing with us.
Though we basically couldn't fight anything and all the players were trying to steal from us and/or leave us for dead in the forest, we did end up having quite a bit of fun, though not being able to really do anything combat wise got pretty old by the time Sunday rolled around, fortunately one of the other players saw our plight and begged the Npc staff to throw us a few things to fight and kill.

Me and the Risen family once had a lovely night hanging out with a Banshee who protected us from the other undead and plague things. That was nice. Once she left, though, we wound up standing stock still in a swamp trying not to even breathe too hard for fear that some thing with glowing eyes all the way across the field would somehow hear us. I don't know how long we stood there. It felt like half an hour.

Fear was had that night. Fear and pleasantries with the undead. Oh to be a Risen.

I was NPCing a little girl named Lilly who had lead the PCs to her grave (I was a ghost). They had to dig me up to help me get my body back. About six PCs work at digging and they, as well as all the other PCs with them, keep glancing over at Puff who is off to the side in full death knight armour with his weapons a white headband on.

Finally, one of the PCs says "I hit something!" They start clearing the something off and discover that it's wood. So they keep digging. And keep glancing at Puff and start looking at Dave and waiting for that hold to be called so Puff can get into the hole.

After more digging, they've fully uncovered the top of the coffin that had been buried about 3 feet deep. As the last of the PCs gets out of the hole the coffin opens from the inside.

I've never seen so many people jump back so far all at once as Murphy stood up from inside the coffin.

And Puff's task in all of this? To wear a white headband while dressed as a death knight so that the PCs would assume he was the big bad they were digging up. Big Grin

I never grow tired of hearing the story of when you buried Murph alive. Smile

My very first All Hallows was while I was still doing my stint as the Photo Ninja (this was 5 years ago). Because we couldn't take pictures at night, Pat and I decided to go out with white headbands on, carrying small glowing lights and just walk around. We had no stats, and didn't inflict any damage, but it was sure fun to see the PCs run in terror anyways. Hehe.

My biggest moment of fear on halloween was sitting in the over hang of a tent shooting the shit with some towns people. The big talk for the weekend was when I would fight the Pantherghast being a female elf and all. It was Friday night and I was like... "Tomorrow I'll be ready. Tonight however if I see him I will run like a bat out of hell into the woods" not even minutes later guess who shows up?
The Pantherghast comes into the over hang looking for elves. I have my hood up already and am not wearing my usual cloak because I was being all stealthy and he doesn't recognize me. I can see him squint around at everyone sitting there. I'm almost face to face with him. Everyone stops talking and I just stop breathing. Sat perfectly still, eyes wide open looking like a deer caught in the head lights. He turns to leave and BAM I'M GONE! Sprinting with speed only known to elves in the presence of the Pantherghast laughing hysterically all the while.

I had another moment with the Pantherghast years before that was priceless. We were walking threw the middle of a large field (because we are smart cookies) and the Pantherghast walks over to us checking us all out. I of course realize who it is right away and casually stand on the other side of people out of site. Someone turns to me and was like "Hey Dawn I think that's the Pantherghast you should run" I sushed them all "I am not Dawn do you want to get us killed. I am sure GLAD THERE ARE NO ELVES WITH US." "but aren't you a" "I will murder you if I survive"

Good times.
