With regards to the brand, have you considered getting yourself ritually identified by the local mage collective? If the brand is magical then some information may be gleaned from doing so.
With regards to the curse with which you have been afflicted, I would suggest finding someone capable of performing a counter-magic against blood magic to remove it. I could also do so with healing or, eventually, enchantment magic but the cost is likely to be exorbitant as I would need to purchase the relevant - and very high level - ritual scrolls.
