Church of Light
#11
Ferdouz, the Tenet of Valdr are as follows.

Five things a follower of Valdr should do:
1. Always lead by exceptional example so that you may inspire bravery and strength in others. Be the oncoming storm to those that serve the selfish and cowardly.
2. Strive to learn from your mistakes and do not let emotions cause you to repeat them.
3. Fight with honour, courage and selflessness. If the retreat is sounded, be the last to leave the battlefield.
4. To those that face you with strength and courage, temper your justice with mercy and humility.
5. Help those that are brave enough to genuinely seek your aid.

Five things a follower of Valdr should not do:
1. Behave like a coward or out of fear for your own safety.
2. Use poisons or assassin’s tools.
3. Compromise with those that willingly accept weakness and cowardice, including those that serve gods or dragons with such qualities. Weakness of flesh is pitiable. Weakness of character is contemptible.
4. Deny anyone who wishes or requests an honourable death.
5. Act foolishly or embrace ignorance.

Demi, the Church is open to any and all followers of the light should they wish to speak of their Gods. I will be holding sermons for Valdr.

Rajani, you are welcome to speak where you desire but as per our previous conversations, the Church will be open to you as wel should you desire it.

Sevatar, the Church has just as much right to exist as any other. Dragons may claim lands but that is all they are...Claims.

But Valdr's tenants indicate that your "church" can't be open to all. If you can't compromise with the "weak," then how are you to co-exist with them? Isn't co-existence a sort of compromise in itself as you are "compromising" in allowing that person to be near you despite varying beliefs? Ergo, how can you allow the church to be open to "all" yet not "compromise" with them? Also what constitutes "weakness"? Which gods/goddesses are weak in Valdr's eyes?
Normally I would just attend and ask these questions in person but, sadly, I doubt I'll be able to make it so I'll have to settle for this sort of communication.

Sorry--"those that accept weakness". Not the weak themselves.

Darling Sevatar,

I'm afraid you won't like the Accords very much, then.

Riven;

Never did I say the Church was open to "all", I said it was open to all LIGHT followers. Light is not weakness. Weakness, as stated in Valdr's first Tenet, would be those that are selfish and cowardly. I would state selfish and cowardly as those that hide behind easy power, those who only act for their own goals and not the goals of those around them and those that harm others for no reason but for their own personal gain. If you know of a Light God that supports those qualities, please let me know.

Dearest Lilith,

Who thought it would be okay to let every vote in the Church of Light's favor count as two?

The things we do for peace.

Ah, I see. I appreciate the clarification of how you interpret weakness. Though I imagine therein lies my problem--I feel the term "weakness" is too broad and up for interpretation. For example, you personally didn't mention this, but I imagine that some would consider giving into temptation and desires of the flesh as weakness. I not too long ago was privileged enough to hear the intriguing hymn of a bard narrating how Valdr did just that. So would you consider lunging at a bathing woman in the form of a...duck I believe?...weakness? Also your tenants don't explicitly state you should reject dark gods or even dragons for that matter, only those who match your criteria, so why exclude everyone and make light worship the key to get in? Aside from the "dark and dragons are bad" arguments.

To ask such a broad and open question as "What is weakness" takes more time to discuss then on a notice board, if you would like to ask these questions and be able to debate the topic properly, you are welcome to join the Sermon on Sunday, or find me at another time and we will discuss. This notice board is already cluttered with many pages of questions that are best answered in person.

Thank you Melody for pointing out how wonderful gifts such as Natural light is. It is truly a miracle to be living in a world where we can ALL enjoy such small miracles.
Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.
