(The forest spanning between the settlement and the still-open rift has been burned fairly clear of foliage, and a lot of damage has been done to trees, structures, anything in the way. A lot of trees are down, broken off at varying heights, and rubbish and rubble has been scattered all over the place. Things are scorched and burned for literally miles surrounding the place, and toward the rift, it's pretty obvious that things are still burning.)
