Will there be food I need to bring?

These are just a few questions I have to see if there's any response. I'm not really tech savvy and the forums I see are 2 years old.

My partner and I have decided to try and give LARPing a go.  I have been a DM/GM for various tabletop RPGs for about 15 years (since I was 14yo), so am very excited to dive in!

We are both curious of what kind of costs we can expect for our first session (and if we wish to continue, what are the costs moving forwards?).

Also is there anything outside of the following we need to worry about?:
  • Read the rulebook (and promptly forget 50% of the minute details)
  • Choose race/class
  • Contact Logistics, get entered in database
  • Submit backstory
  • Read invite/prelog
  • Create an appropriate costume (following the safety rules of course)
  • Prepare provisions
  • Show up for our first session and be terrible!
I'm also curious if there is a "lack" of certain races/occupations.  I'd be interested in filling any niche roles if possible Smile 

We are VERY excited and can't wait to start working on our characters!  I'm assuming we probably won't be ready until the February (or maybe March) event - but we are itching to get out there!

Hello all! I am gearing up and getting ready to join Ralinwood during the 2018 season - And just have a few questions regarding mechanics, costs, and NPCing!


IC-Mechanic Questions

Recover (Healing Sphere, Level 1)
This spell can only be cast on a wounded target that is at less than 2 Body. Doing so will raise their Body points to 2. This does not function on those in their Death Counts or on Undead. 

-Can this be used to pull someone out of there Bleed count? I was a little confused about this one! (Considering it only mentions that it does not function on those in their death counts)

I, Isak, a young Einher mage who is focusing on the school of Healing, wish to walk the path of devotion to my patron deity Valdr, the Stormbringer. As the father of my people, I feel inspired and driven to devote my life to him as his faithful servant and his Voice. 

From my fellow Einher brethren who were in  Ralinwood for my first visit I have learned much of our lore and how one can devote themselves to the gods. I understand that I must recite the tenants, which i have done for those who seek guidance in their lives. I have prayed for victory and the protection of my people and comrades, and give praise for all the good fortune that I had received in my time in Ralinwood. 

How may I further progress myself along this long road, for the benefit of those around me, to guide the faithful along in the ways of Tempered Valour and Wisdom? Any advice from other Clerics, or people walking similar paths, would be much appreciated, and I now humble myself before you and your charity.

So, I've been about long enough to have a decent grip on lore, but I've noticed that it's all FOIG - not a small amount, but even basic things, like how Ralinwood is an island. The information is really dispersed, and the wiki is still incomplete. Would any of the vet players or shapers or etc be able to throw together a new player lore primer, maybe? Not a ton of information, but basic things like gods, churches, the Blood Red Rose, Duvanian law, the Citadel, etc. Maybe even subdivide things - elves might know lots about Thalan lore and soforth, but others may not. It wouldn't be an easy task, but I don't know enough to confidently throw it together, and as it stands there's little in the way of obvious lore.]]>

My name is Danny, and I hope to show up at your October event. I've wanted to get into LARP for a very long time, and was actually considering Epoch before my sister (Alex/Ursel) found you guys and sang your praises. So I bailed hard on those guys and now I'm here. 

While Alex has been able to answer a good deal of my questions, and I've forgotten most of the ones she couldn't, I do have a few I'd like to bring up. Less gameplay stuff and more community based, I suppose. 

- I know your religions are going through a bit of an overhaul after recent events, and I was wondering if there are any established means of worship/rites/etc that are being added, already done in game, or if it's a free for all. 

- What are some decent ways to get involved with the in game community? I know that I've timed my arrival around the game a lot of people might spend hiding in a bush, but it's good to plan ahead...

- Are there any people that consistently leave from Toronto, or that area? I'm currently an Oakville resident, and while I'm timing this first game with a visit to London, the difference between leaving from there or leaving from Union is upwards of seventy bucks. I'd much rather throw some of that money and a coffee or something at another attendee, as I'm merely a poor burger peddler with naught but loose change and McDonalds coffee. 

- Do any of you have a thing you really wish you'd known before your first game that you wish to share, or a pet peeve regarding new players that can be avoided?

That's all I can think of right now, though I'm sure I'll awake in the dead of night in a cold sweat to type more when I remember them. Also happy to answer any questions you might have for me.]]>

Furthermore, I'd need a place to sleep. I can organize a sleeping bag and some bedding, but I might need some help with a tent. I am more than happy to share a tent, however, I do not want to come off as demanding. Would that be a possibility?
