Should we be worried?
#1
To all ya lawful residents of Ralinwood,

I don't know bout the rest of ya, but that main lander wild elf just started building a Church. And one of darkness at that! Common folk don't just build something like that unless they wish to exact some sort of action against another. How is this allowed. Are my fears founded or are they gonna be the "good" type of dark dealing creatures. Let your voices rise up and tell them we don't need those type of values in our fine town.

I don't want some cult looming about who's ideas mean harm.

Leon, come the spring the Church of Light will begin its building. You are welcome to come and visit any time you feel unsafe. In the mean time, you can come to my Grove or the Guiding Lights Camp to discuss these matters.

A message to Leon, though others are encouraged to take my words to heart.

Aeval now calls this place home, and she is free to pursue her faith however she sees fit. You call out to the law abiding residents of Ralinwood, but perhaps it would be wise if you were to familiarize yourself with the laws we now have in place. To quote the wisdom of our Lady Aminata on the freedom for all in Ralinwood to practice their religion:

"There will be no preference or discrimination towards any church, cult, or other spiritual or religious following or any other organization given such classification as decided by local authority, whose tenets and followers operate within the bounds of Republic law."

So to answer your question, that is how it's been allowed. Aeval has made it clear that she wishes to help those who follow a dark god express themselves without fear, and is creating a place in which they can do so. She and those that share her views are in fact the "good" type, though calling anyone a dark dealing creature suggests you don't actually have any intent behind this message except to spread more fear and suspicion.

This matter actually does not need be discussed further, and while I cannot stop you or others for posting such unkind things, they are unnecessary. If any of the dark church break Ralinwoods laws or bring harm against another, they will be dealt with. The same goes for any who take uncalled action against them purely for what god they pray to. We are a community now, a town brought together under a noble who has faith in her people. Do not disappoint her.

Leon,

While I understand your concern you are more than welcome to come and check out the church, should you have any questions I will be more than happy to answer them. Should you feel unsafe I also welcome any Warden or town official to accompany you.

If anyone else should have an issue with my church I also urge you to come find me, I would love to chat.

Lamalas - Your offer be kind but it shouldn't be necessary, everyone should feel safe without the need to run to a Church of other place of power. This creates civil unrest.

Laws are agreed upon by the masses. And these laws are of Duvain itself. And noted to be amended from time to time. Townships also have their own local laws that focus to regions in which the town is located. Our fine town has a lot to prove to Duvain as it was an experiment from the start in hopes we wouldn't tear our selves apart. We should also impose our own local laws that fit our region and inspire a thriving community.
There are many Deities and faiths that are held by locals and visitors abroad. Some inspire the best in ourselves, some showing kindness to others, and those that promote the darker desires of our morality.

Churches and groups that gather wronged people in mass I find hard to believe will inspire them to simply let past grievance got away. They are places that help guide and focus these desires.

I would like to formally ask our wonderful Lady Aminata Gomorrah a chance to make my plea towards a town amendment that reviews the views towards Dark worship in these lands. Unless they can show their tenants can benefit the prosperity and peace of our town their worship should be barred or heavily regulated to prevent their views from becoming dangerous to our citizens.

"There will be no preference or discrimination towards any church, cult, or other spiritual or religious following or any other organization given such classification as decided by local authority, whose tenets and followers operate within the bounds of Republic law."

Whose tenets and followers operate within the bounds of Republic law. You may 'construct' all the altars you please. Simply do not forget that while you may, with words, praise Raze, you may not with your actions do the same - to the best of my understanding of what praising Raze would be.

- No one may assault, threaten violence upon, or murder a writ-bearing citizen of
the Republic or any of those bearing writs of protection of the Republic for any
reason other than self-defence in the face of an act of violence that this law
covers.

- No one may steal nor commits an act of thievery against another.

- No one may kidnap, capture, or hold against their will, any law-abiding citizen of
the Republic.

- Anyone found to be aiding, assisting, enabling, or abetting someone to perform
the above crimes will be sentenced to the same punishment as the guilty party
themselves.

- Anyone found of endangering the Republic, national interest, local Council, or
Body politic as a whole, whether by word or deed or other means, may be found
guilty of treason; if so found, the sentence is hanging by the neck to death,
with a possible provision for final death by any means available.

It certainly seems this Republic is not interested in vengeance so much as what was described to me once as 'due process'. My only other experience in human lands was in Jericho, and there too worship of the dark seemed more prevalent than of the light, or the draconic, and the three combined far outweighed those devoted to worship of reason.

It is up to the practitioners of these faiths to decide how they will align their worship with local law, not any of you. The rules have been put in place, and the Wardens will see that they are followed by all.

Within any group there exists the moderate and the extreme. Some may turn to Raze for petty vengeance, others during the horrors of the wars some we live alongside have faced. I have met clerics of Kael that renounced the harsh actions of the Citadel.

Lady Aminata, a follower of a god who falls into the realm of Light Worship, saw fit to give all a chance to prove that they can live alongside one another. As I have said before, you have the right to your opinions, but until any harm is committed by those you call neighbor they are empty words.

So I respectfully ask that you stop arguing the rights of your fellow citizens as if they are the enemy. Those who actively revile the worship of gods should not tell others how to construct their altars or enact their tenets. Those who aren't innocent in all things should not vilify an entire group of people, many of whom have lived alongside you for years or visited in peace in the past.

This is not the time or place to debate philosophies and religion. Do it among yourselves if you must, but don't slander your fellow citizens in so public and harsh a way.

Of course you are correct - individual freedom of speech and collective good can be at odds. The wisdom of this cannot be denied - I will respectfully refrain from sharing my thoughts in future.

Many thanks for pointing this out to me in a respectful fashion, it is noted and appreciated.

In the future they may not be so at odds. Your ability to examine a thing from many angles is commendable, truly. I simply don't wish it to lead to violence. You've shown yourself to be a man of conscience, and I wouldn't want your philosophizing to lead to regrets. Forgive me if my tone seemed harsh.
