Event Review - Down Came the Reign
#11
I had a good time.
I really liked the bridge mod. I think the PC's would have made it more successful by actually taking shifts instead of just leaving and not coming back. That to me makes it an IG issue rather then plot related.
The dark elemental mod was very difficult for me to understand both IG and OOG what was happening or even where we were. I could not find a shaper on scene that could clarify. Perhaps they were in a monster role.
Physignathus stuff went well albeit not the location I hoped for. It was a good back up.
The weather certainly sapped people more quickly. People were too hot to do anything but at the same time bored because they weren't doing anything.

Protection caster Backpacking for Drakkan was certainly a good time.
We started some new songs
I liked the mine mod. My voice is scratchy today after yelling for people not to walk on/over/through the fuse. I don't know how we didn't set it off. Someone had the fuse stuck on their foot and kept walking. I thought we were dead for sure.

We made the trek to the water to see it finally. I don't know how the mock fighting Deago, Barley and I didn't make some of the cars crash or drive off the road. People were quite shocked as they drove by in cars and it was hilarious.

Good game from top to bottom in my opinion. Thank you again for a game with no monster using massive damage.

Pros:

- Friday night's birthday demons for everyone was an interesting touch. Thought there should have been a bit more going on for those of us waiting for our's to arrive or whom already fought their's but it was something not done at a game in UW before in my almost 8 full seasons of gaming at UW. Cudos to Brittany for stalking me as my demon in a sneaky manner. Was very legitimately worried that she would get the drop on me and stiletto me faster than I could to her. :-)

- Bridge mod I found to be very challenging between the monsters and the limiting of space available to operate within. The constant fear of falling in the river had me constantly looking over my shoulder while still wanting to fight the way I usually fight.

-Saving Vicount Hopper (the Duke's son) from the Gobbos and Orcs that had kidnapped him.

- Surviving the Mist Marauder attack. Big thanks for the armour smithing and healing to those whom helped keep me alive.

-Being tanked up for the final mod by both Ludvic and Theo. A total of 10 ward stones is a gross thing on any one player. I know the frustration of not being able to hurt something so a cudos to the NPCs for rolling so well with it and still trying to engage me in combat.

- There weren't many NPCs I interacted with over the weekend but I did enjoy the limited interaction with Lord Curum and with Elektra's Succubus.

- The RP that I had with the player base was definitely enjoyable. Thank you to everyone that interacted with me. Donovan, Barley, and Doyly........especially Doyly.........were awesome this weekend. Thanks for letting me get you into some hot water with the Tavern cook and wait staff Davis and your drunken RP in Muintir proclaiming yourself as the bestest magical wench of Ralinwood was hilarious.

Cons:

- Head shots. I took ALOT of them in the Mist Marauder mod and in the final mod. Large fat guy here guys.....my head is not that large to make it the best target to aim for.

- Fast counts. I'm guilty of it from time to time in the excitement of the moment but the counts for effects are one one thousand, two one thousand, three one thousand, etc etc etc. I saw both players and NPCs being guilty of this over the weekend. Not a huge deal overall but it can lead to accusations of cheating so lets try to avoid doing so.

I want to apologize to Jeff Barth for a nut shot given Friday or Saturday night. Due to a dark tunic at night I misjudged where his stomach was and nutted him. Sorry sir. Same goes to anyone else I may have struck too hard with a weapon this weekend. No one approached me about doing so but if I did I apologize since it wasn't intentional.

Pros:
I had a great time roleplaying with everyone especially the orcs.
Most of the mods were very well done, you guys surprise me very well.
Being a badass killing things even after getting injured.
Surprise! Mist Marauders.
Loot to heal the fallen healer.
Getting healed by slower "saving" smaller and then proceeding to defend town.
First time at the watering hole, felt so good.
Goblin's making me bring them the dukes son.
Duke watching me bring goblins his son.

I really enjoy playing with everyone at this event. No one was really causing too much
chaos oog and the battles were nice and smooth.

Cons:
Getting injured, what can you do...
Heat, what can you do...
The bridge mod was fine except for the waiting for four hours. It's just too long.
The dark elementals that we had to fight just fear striking us like crazy.
The random portal of elelmentals wasnt more of a dislike but didnt like it either. I dont know just wasnt feeling it.

I had a great time! It was my second game and everyone was very accommodating whenever I had questions. The mods were great as well, especially when we got attacked by dark elementals and couldn't see them at all. The best part for me was when I was rushed to the front of the bridge by Drakkon to pelt the orcs with arrows. Second being the Birthday demon that almost killed me. Third was when one of the orcs got angry that I kept shooting him and chased me down with flurry of blows and obliterated me. Also sorry to anyone I hit with poorly aimed arrows. Oh yes and it was also hilarious when I was sapped by a kobold before breakfast on saturday.

Any time you want to tuck in behind me and pelt NPCs with arrows in a situation like that just let me know. I'll help get you within firing range and protect your middle since I have decent armour on and a stiletto that most nasties won't like getting close to Smile

I really liked this game
The new magic power that I had added a lot of fun to the game for me

It felt a bit forced with the dark elementals, we had town gathered to do the undead church mod and then we all were hooked into that and after that we were unable to get town back together

I really liked coming out and I had lots of fun! Everyone's awfully friendly and helpful. I plan on making it out more often. PC and the little NPC interactions I had were amazing. You guys are all great and make coming out all that more enjoyable.

I liked the Birthday Demon mod at first but then the extra added water elementals made it feel too rushed and busy. I also liked Saturday nights dark elementals but it felt like there were too many of them..? Or maybe that's just me.

Also, shot out to the goblins that broke into my cabin and hit me with alchemic sleep when I was actually sleeping. Thanks for not murdering me in my sleep!

And there was artistry, combat mods at Ralinwood are always exceptional (coming from someone who has to write many of them and knows first hand that it is not easy like players think).

You area great player, Constantine. You don't have to be so self deprecating. Sometimes the mods don't make it onto the field the way they looked in our heads. (In fact, of all players, I feel like you know how that goes!) We have good mods and bad mods, and I can own that. It's just fine to feel like you're a good player and you met a bad mod; we'll do our best to learn from it.

I would like to say thank you to Ivanna for the tavern. Some of you may not know that so many people ordered food who did not respond to her asking who will need food this game post, that she ended up cooking and handing out her own food so thank you Ivanna

When every/most player(s) doesn't/don't get something, usually there is a communication breakdown somewhere.

When 1 player doesn't get something, its super improbable that the fault lies with anyone but that player. I was that player this weekend.

I'm serious when I say I was halfway to crazytown on Saturday night - ask anyone else who was around me. I went on every(?) combat mod this weekend as NPC or PC. And they were all really good. I just stopped being able to parse what was happening around me eventually, and went into instinct-fight-time mode. Which was kind of awesome, actually, and totally my choice 110%. And I would choose it again.

I swear a lot as a habit, don't think I'm being unnecessarily hard on myself - its just how I speak.

Also Jeff reminds me, all the high fives and thumbs up to Ivanna. The tavern was amazing forever.
