A very hot but very fun event with lots of things to kill!
Pros + Positive Highlights
+ Multiple HUGE battles! Holy crap nothing is scary like more than a dozen orcs rushing the town. The close PC:NPC ratio makes these fights so damn intimidating! W\
+ The Catapult mod was really cool! It was cool to not just capture but hold an area for an extended period of time. Also good mix of enemy units in both casters and combatants.
+ Decent loot! Finding a bit of everything is nice, I avoided the usual RM flood.
+ Very fun RP with both new and old PC's. Shout out to Jordan, Brad, Adam, Matt W, Shoshana and the player who plays Rot Tooth for providing some great RP highlights.
+ Thank you shapers/marshals for letting me play my favourite NPC role again! I love playing crocs/alligators! Also, thanks to the shapers/marshals for allowing me to run out on so many roles during my shift. I am always gung-ho to get out there again after popping and dropping.
+ Einsh rage duel + knife fights with Grimnir.
+ Being garrotted as a Murker, having Grimnir loot me faster than the garrotte killed me, being dropped, sitting up realizing I’m fine, grabbing my weapons and feeling before the PC’s realized what had happened.
+ Getting to use my racial ability for the first time when hit with murker spit! Ha!
+ Introducing my buddy Brett (who plays Jäger) to his first LARP event and getting him hooked!
Cons + Negative Highlights
-Some pretty bad swings, especially machine-gunning.
-Couple players not incanting spells before throwing them.
- Waking up Saturday morning around 8:00 and literally doing nothing for four hours until my NPC shift at 12:00 was a little annoying.
- Giant king crabs moving very quickly, swinging massive, having both destroy armour and weapon shatter, having above 4 normal threshold, fighting 3 of them at once in multiple waves. These guys were tough, and I don’t mind a challenge, but what was frustrating was fighting a creature that swings FAST for MASSIVE. Not to mention, they also had a threshold that I couldn’t touch with my sword. I think a creature, unless it is a large, solitary boss monster, should either have a threshold or swing massive, not both. Not at least until every archer in town has silver arrows. But additionally, if it’s a massive creature, I don’t think it should be moving or swinging as fast as I saw. Stepping in, tapping for 4 normal to a “no effect” reply and having to immediately jump away to avoid a very fast 4 massive claw was rather tiresome after a while.
- An injured player calling for a medical marshal during a hold with no reply...
Overall, other than some players needing to be re-taught how to LARP fight, I had a great weekend and my pros far outweigh the cons. See you all in June!
