Staff question - Van Medicus - 03-19-2015

I'm looking to improve my 2h staff (rep wise) and I'm wondering about the padding on the outside. What is best measurement for thickness? Also any other general tips for staff making would be helpful as well!

The minimum for striking surface is 3/4 of an inch. So keep this in mind.
