Shields - Rolin Smith - 08-03-2014

Just wondering, I was looking at the spec for shields but it didn't really specify a shield base.. I have some small plywood, perhaps some small osb....as long as I foam it like crazy, any problems?

RE: Shields - ¸ ¸ - 08-04-2014

Wood makes a fine base. I have also seen shield constructed with plastic bases using things like garbage can lids. So long as the shield is not flexible and is padded you'll be fine.

One thing I found that helps as a great base for a shield is using a body board. Its already covered in closed cell foam, and using some imagination can make them turn out really cool. I've built one for Dystopia Rising and it turned out great ^^

What is a body board?

RE: Shields - Michelle - 08-11-2014

A body board is a smallish foam board used at the lake/ocean for belly-surfing in low waves. I hope it will be sturdy enough.

Suhaib's shield is a kid's body board thing we got at Michaels for $5. He just padded it up with loads of foam, and apparently more than 2 rolls of duct tape. Every winter, he also keeps going on about using the kids' sleds you get at Walmart for shields.

Anyone have any tips for ways to attach it to my arm? All I can really think of is leather buckles.

RE: Shields - Sigurd Vask - 01-12-2015

You can use dog collars, fed through the core if you have the ability to work that out.

I've used belts and gutter strapping before. Both can be found pretty cheap.

Gate latch hardware makes for a nice sized handle.
