Smoke Grenades - Victor - 07-27-2014

Hi all!

So this past event, smoke was deployed for a group of dashing fellows when they visited town. A lot of feedback since then has been that it really added a terrifying effect. It is generally really useful at setting the mood and making things scary. However, something that sometimes accompanies this positive comment is the negative comment of respiratory issues.

So with this in mind, I'm interested to hear the Ralinwood community's thoughts regarding its use. Do the pros outweigh the cons? Also keep in mind that it's not like all of Ralinwood will be under a smoke screen for a whole weekend. Just the rare occasion now and then.

Also, if anyone has experience with pyrotechnics, maybe if there is information on smoke that might not affect breathing as much. Generally, I would assume that breathing any kind of smoke would have negative side-effects but maybe there's something out there that minimizes this.

I really liked it, As in Einish player it really messed with me and added a great layer to what was going on. The smoke did however make breathing a little hard and I think I got downed right next to one.

I think the only reason they found me was because of my OOG coughing from the smoke. I'd personally love to see more of them as it makes my racial disadvantage less reliant on the weather.

Loved the smoke and the atmosphere it created... but it did make it hard to breathe for me. I did not stay long in the smoke area. If the mod had called for more fighting around the smoke bombs when it was really thick I might have gotten sick. Maybe slightly less smoke bombs?
I did love the eerie feeling it created. Looked scary. Crazy awesome. So it makes me feel sad to say I had a hard time breathing. So sad. Sad

As I mentioned in the review, they look bloody awesome. But, they smell horrible (which, on it's own isn't too much of an issue), and I also have the problem of choking and coughing on the smoke where it was thicker. They did, unfortunately, cause an almost instant pounding headache for me.

Deploying the grenades higher up would help spread it out a bit more, but I don't know how feasible that is because climbing in trees and on rooftops might be dangerous/not appreciated by the park's owners. Or perhaps deploying it slightly further back from the intended area of combat.

I loved the atmosphere they created, and the fact that you laid it on thick contributed to that significantly. Unfortunately my throat was rather sore afterwards. All in all I think it's worth the pain.

I love the atmosphere, but in situations such as a hot day like Saturday, I think it should be used in moderation. I was already feeling ill from the day and it caused me to feel very light-headed and dizzy. If it was weather like the June event, that would have been so much better with the use.

The smoke really did make that mod. It was awesome. The smoke did bother me a bit but it did others. However that kinda added to the whole thing! Really freaks you out when the person fighting next to you says they can't see them. It was something else. And I agree with Silv. Next time maybe a little farther back. But if so, use more >Big Grin mwohaha!

RE: Smoke Grenades - quintus - 07-28-2014

there is nothing more menacing then staring into the fog as a body wielding sword materializes out of it and proceeds to EXHALE FOG!! cudos to the npc who held their shit together and not succumb to a coughing fit i shat bricks

RE: Smoke Grenades - Stars - 07-28-2014

The fog has great effects but I think smoke grenades aren't a viable option. Some people have asthma and it can take them OOG really fast and ruin their experience. Perhaps the next time the grenades are used, shapers should warn all asthmatic people what is about to happen.

So far I believe until we can make the smoke safer, the Cons outweigh the Pros. Still awesome though.

I have always been a fan of over the top effects such as this. I personally loved every part of it and wish we could have more cool pyrotechnics like this in the future Smile But I do understand that some people have medical issues with the smoke. As long as they have a way to get away from the smoke or be warned about it hopefully we can have the best of both.
