Event Review - Worse things Happen at Sea - Ben - 05-10-2014 Please post your event reviews here. We would like to hear your pros and cons, both IG and OOG. If you have more serious concerns please email ownership directly. Lets hear em! RE: Event Review - Worse things Happen at Sea - Andrei Katrares - 05-10-2014 I want to start by saying that this was a fantastic event, and I'm super impressed. You guys have set the bar high for the rest of the season. Pros +Every. NPC. All of them were amazing. They worked super hard, and they really raised the bar on quality. Bonus props to Chris as the final mod golem. +Super neat concepts for mods, very creative use of the space we had to play in. Plot team did a great job. +The site is awesome! +The tavern was exceptional. I'm sorry if I weird'ed you out after game by running over and shaking your hand, but I think you did so so well. +PC interaction was great. Tension, teamwork, drama, it was all there. Very much looking forward to next game with you guys, and seeing how things resolve! +PCing again! Hurray! +The Emerald Company! I was so happy to have each and every one of you there. You made the game for me. Cons -Body effects were a bit strong. I like the challenge factor brought forward, but we had very limited resources to deal with it. A 3 body hamstring against a 0 blanket warrior class is a vital blow with a slow effect on it. -It would have been nice to have met the nobles who were on the boats (who are ostensibly running the town, and could have provided more high-level goals and context to us), but I know I can't peer behind the curtain and really guess at the motives there so this may be meaningless. Suggestion This is actually Mark's suggestion, but I'm posting it in agreement - you have a really nice tavern space. Would you guys be taking donations for tablecloths and nice period-decor-things to gussy it up a bit? I think with a little work it will be the heart of the town and packed to the brim. We'd love donations to make the tavern nice. Tablecloths would make a big difference, and we'd also like to have Duvainian flags to hang. We just wanted to have the essentials taken care of first. PM any one of us if you have something in mind. RE: Event Review - Worse things Happen at Sea - Retired - 05-10-2014 Had an amazing time. Will post full review Final Boss was amazing and so well done! Probably my favorite final fight of all time. Chew did an awesome job telegraphing and giving us a chance, and the monster was perfectly designed for fighting a large group! RE: Event Review - Worse things Happen at Sea - Magnus - 05-10-2014 This was a great event. GOGO Team Ralinwood you guys did great Pros -NPCs were great -Lots of great player interaction -Felt challenging but never overwhelming -Good pacing with lots to do -Tavern was great -It was a new feeling to not have to be afraid of any other players :p Cons -Was supposed to be involved in the Mage ritual at the end but I guess wasn't close enough to be grabbed when it began, that's just bad luck though. Really you guys did a great job, I can't wait to come back and see what plot has in store next. tired now, may update later.. RE: Event Review - Worse things Happen at Sea - Mardi Beren - 05-10-2014 Fantastic event! If this is the pitch you can manage all season, we're in for a whooper! Pro + Great NPCs who did a good job adapting to player actions, and who knew how to use body language to sell their rolls + The "scavenger hunt" aspect was a fantastic idea. I hope there'll be similar things in the future! + Plenty of action, but I never felt rushed or harried. + The tavern was a good price for good food, and there was good RP from the man running it. + I really liked the idea of pulling the mages in and then having them form part of the final boss fights, it made the fights more interesting because you knew that was your friend underneath, and by that point most mages were running on empty and that got them back into the game. + I got to sing! + Being all lowbies was a really nice feeling. Con - No creeping cautiously through forests at night! That hypervigilent paranoia at every little sound is a big part of UW to me. I can't wait for a weekender.... - My chainmail was ridiculously heavy on my shoulders. Not sure what I'd do in a weekender... - I have to second the "too much body" comment. Body damage is a great equalizer when some people are running >200 armor, but here it wasn't as necessary and got a bit excessive at times. - On that note, being put out of fight after fight wasn't fun. Hamstring, Hamstring, Pin+Web, Hamstring, Paralyze, Hamstring, Pin, Hamstring... Most of that was just bad luck on my part, though. I also heard different calls on what's necessary to fix the hamstring. Suggestions + An NPC healer and/or protections caster (possibly the tavernkeep?) could serve as a goldsink while providing a bit more flex on that body damage. + An IG town notice board at site might be awesome! + "Headbutt", "Bum Rush", "Knockdown", "With +X Strength ____", "Lockjaw", and "Suffocate" are all great abilities to see more of on monsters. RE: Event Review - Worse things Happen at Sea - Myra - 05-11-2014 Amazing event! Super impressed. Pros: - Everything seemed perfectly scaled. Maybe too many body calls, but it didn't seem like a huge deal and it also allowed the physicians to be busy with first aid instead of just stabilizing everyone - Feeling like a veteran at level two. - Great timing. Not a huge amount of downtime, but not too constantly busy - Something for everyone to do. Not all just "wail on everything" for all the fighters (though plenty of that too!) - Surgery mod! So much frantic searching for ingredients. Being legitimately worried that the two patients would die until the npc doctor did...something...and then being worried about the consequences for them. And then the gore mod surgery! Never seen that before, added great flavour. - Saw so many doctors rping physician skills instead of just tapping at someone. Keep it up! - Witch! Witch! WIIIIIITCH! Cons: - Slightly conflicting information from various npcs in regards to how many plants were needed/existed. Might have been intentional to make things more confusing IG? Seemed to end up delaying the surgery unnecessarily though and may have caused death or slavery for a few farmers. RE: Event Review - Worse things Happen at Sea - Szhmhlaer - 05-11-2014 Was a really good game Pros: - having a body spear baking me up constantly - All the PvP tension was awesome and realizing that we were more in charge of us then those random lord people were - All the new players were super awesome. - Mods were fun, NPCs did a fantastical job and you used the area really well Cons: - Um, I dunno RE: Event Review - Worse things Happen at Sea - Rakanis - 05-11-2014 The game itself was well paced. I found the NPCs were statted appropriately. As with all tavern nights, the plot line is very linear and specific. I don't like that. However, i have no alternative so, until one can be found, we will just have to deal with it. Final Mod... Either level 1-3 players have a LOT more body than i seem to think they do, or a LOT of you people suck at counting. I saw a lot of people getting hit a bunch of times. I am confident we do not have THAT much protections, yet, nor do i think we have that much healing, either. I feel there should have been FAR more people not getting up from a 60 second count, on that mod. Then again, as far as veterans go, maybe I was the only honest one, out of the people getting hit. Hard to say. In an honour system, we have to assume you are being honest. Chris you did a lovely job with the Golem, though. Your swings were broad and slow. No attempts to "win". Your Enemy Focus was also done well. Wide swings until some one could be singled out, then go a swing or two at them, give people behind you a chance to strike. I was very pleased. Tavern worked well. Cool fruit without me having to use a cooler was nice. Cost was perfectly reasonable. The site... I suppose a few years with a site, as large as Jericho is, has left me with some high expectations. I am sure the site locations will evolve over time, and even change as things are situated and moved around. For now, i am not a fan of this one, quite yet. There is a LOT of visible modern. From the Frisbee golf on the other side of the stream, to the roads, the grounds person mowing the law, cars beside the tavern and the road ways very close to us. The location, I would imagine is the hardest part to a successful game so a lot of slack needs to be allotted as the game establishes itself. My suggestion, limit the amount of time spent up top. I found the mod sites to avoid the area, which is perfect. Crunchies, you need to go where the people are, nothing you can do there. I don't like that our boundaries are not well defined. I had no idea, other than the grave yard, where i could or could not go. This will come out with time but i think it is something that should be well specified, in an area with as much out of game land as this one. Maybe an out of game, crapily drawn, something. Just so we know what to stay away from. Am i correct to assume that the Lake, i recall seeing, is on the other side of the road? That makes me sad. I look forward to seeing what Ralinwood can do. I feel this lot has the potential to come up with some great stuff. I think once the excitement of a new game settles down, things will go well. Fun fact, i didn't speak, in character, that entire game. People still have no idea what my name is. :-D And don't any of you meta that from my account name :-P RE: Event Review - Worse things Happen at Sea - Retired - 05-11-2014 The Goods: -Boss NPC was my favorite boss ever. Everyone could hurt it, but everyone had to work together to defeat it. -The Gargalyn guarding the Skien gate was a nice touch and really showed off the shapers knowledge of the world. -NO HIGHLEVEL MAGIC SWORDS ONLY BULLSHIT -Amazing costuming from both PC's and NPC's -NPC's did an amazingamazingamazing job, it felt like there was always something going on and happening -wolves acted like wolves and not kamikazes -Very little "Go here and bash this". It was more of a "Go here, bash this, while others do this, so we can achieve this." Very well done! -Site seems like just the right size, to be immersive, but not so big that PC's can camp far away and complain when no NPC's go out that way. -Most importantly, I had fun, and I didn't roll my eyes once! -The Tavern. Willing to do just about anything to help that place be more IG. -Getting Dropped by a PC arrow that was meant for the Boss. So funny and awesome The Bads: -Seemed like an insane amount of body damage. -The Riding Lawnmower. Hoping that's not going to be a recurring thing. -Seemed like there were a lot of PC's who were native the land. That's not the con though, since they are great and add tension. The con is that they don't seem to be on the same page with the Shapers and it lead to a a lot of confusing immersion breaking conversations. The Neutrals: -Cheaters gonna cheat. This use to be a sore spot for me, but with age comes wisdom. Everyone LARPS for different reasons, and some people do it because they NEED to win at any cost, even if that means flubbing the amount damage they take. The best thing you can do is accept that these people exist and will always exist........and then manufacture their IG destruction >: ) Suggestions: -Constantine already said it, but an IG tavern would be awesome. Will contact with donation ideas -A little blurb at the start of the event for people arriving by boat and those native to land just to give them general information about what they should know. |
