RE: "Just a Matter of Business" July Event Reviews - Ishmael Khalid - 07-27-2014 Hey all, Heather and I had a busy weekend and we could only schedule in a few hours for Ralinwood but I'm glad we did. After months of planning characters, buying latex weapons and costume, writing character backgrounds, etc. it was great to finally put it all in use. Because of the 4 hour drive we were only there from about 2pm until about 9pm on Saturday, so this is a snapshot of what we saw. Pros: - Ralinwood has a distinct "feel" to it, and that's probably the best compliment I can give it. Being in-game feels familiar but new at the same time. This is undiscovered country but you can pull from the lore you already know to fill in the blanks. There's a sense of possibilities in Ralinwood as a player and nothing is better than that. - I think the "dock" is and will always been the key point in Ralinwood, it's like having a gate with a endless amount of fresh plotlines on the other side. You quite literally have a world of stories at the end of your harbour. - I really like the nobles, they add an element of tension between PCs. I imagine this will only increase over time as history develops between them at events. When I asked for a summary of them IG, 2 minutes later I understand the power dynamic in town and a wealth of possibilities opened up for my character. - The staff, of course, are great. But you all know this already. - The site is perfect for the size of the playerbase. Indoor tavern with covered patio, camps close enough to hear screams but distant enough for privacy and lots of cool spots for mods. There's open fields, ambush alley and long paths that stretch out toward suspicious forests. I didn't get to explore as much as I liked, that's on the agenda next time. - I didn't get a chance to see logistics up and running on Friday but as late arrivals we had our envelopes in our hands, armour and weapons checked and were ready to start playing in about 15 minutes. Can't ask for anything more. Cons: - I was trying to think of some constructive criticism but everything I could think of felt needlessly picky or had to do with my own character. I'll give it another shot when I'm on site for more than 7 hours and can immerse myself more. We can't attend the next event due to scheduling, but Heather and I are planning to be at the September event from start to finish. We'll see everyone then. You all should be proud, you've got something good here. RE: "Just a Matter of Business" July Event Reviews - Doyly - 07-27-2014 ALRIGHT! It's time for my review... Pros: -Being the Head of Hospital Guard! Last game it was just kind of a title I had, but now I have guards working for me who will follow my orders to protect the Hospital which gets A LOT of attention. -Helping out Teja out-of-game. She had ran to Storm Vale when the berserker attack happened Saturday night and had gotten over heated. I'm not saying her over heating was a Pro, but I think the fact the when she did she was next to me with a full canteen to help out. -Doyly now knowing what the brothel is and of sex works. Every time someone bring something like that up he just freezes up and slowly walks away if he can XD -Epipha-rocks! I had a pocket of rock reps all weekend I kept forgetting. But whenever things got really bad I had the epiphany "Wait... I HAVE ROCKS!" Love the Epipha-rocks. -All of the NPCs! You could tell that the NPCs were having a blast doing whatever they were supposed to do and that just made dealing with them so much better. -Dave the Farmer. Who ever played Dave the Farmer from the "Frozen rotting chunks?" mod, GIVE THAT MAN A RAISE! I mean that guy was a heaping mess of sadness and dismay! It was wonderful! He explained everything to the best of someone in his position could. The fact that never played out makes me thinks that isn't over... -Doyly and Leon pulling a move from Shaun of the Dead! When the berserkers came and I could fight them a large group of us had been pushed into the tree line. We hid, licking of wounds for a while before me and Leon decided to go out and see if we could help. To walk around though we pretended to BE berserkers by walking slow and screaming. A few walked past us thinking we were them XD that was the scariest/funniest moment of the weekend for me. -My hat. That is all. -My Tavern NPC shifts. I had a lot of fun taking everyone orders. I think it was the combo of Doyly always wanting to help people and me wanting to help out in a kitchen again even in a small way. -The boat mod. The mod itself was really really fun and that boss fight was... Well... Something I would consider to be a boss fight. But the fact this was helping out Vali and the Fenricks AND that this was the first plot point to span all 3 guildhouses was really really cool! -The final mod. That was so fun to be apart of. It was so simple and so nice and then "ALL TERMS ARE NOW OFF!". That was a hard fight and the hospital saw more use then than anytime before. I was so proud of the hospital's healers and my guards! We saved a lot of people by both healing ours and killing theirs. After that fight though I had to step back and think "Wow... When did Doyly start becoming a bad-ass?" Cons: -Definitely the heat. While I can't really feel temperature (because reasons) it effected a lot of people. If it is that bad again I think I'll see about getting NPC camp a water cooler or something to use how they see fit. -Rampant going out of game. A few players would go out of game to make a joke about something or to have ideal chit chat when others were around. I don't want to be that guy but it was very immersion breaking at times. I feel going out of game should be held for OOG questions, rules checking, helping out in an actual emergency, or the odd comment. Of course there are other situations where you need to, but not to get a bit of a laugh when others are trying to stay in character. That kind of bothered me a bit. And so ends the review from Davis/Doyly. Over all? Best weekend yet! ⌒.⌒ RE: "Just a Matter of Business" July Event Reviews - Zshlwre - 07-27-2014 All in all I had an amazing time this weekend, though the sources of the fun are a bit muddled in my mind. Pros: There were a lot of NPC groups that we(orcs) tried to convince to act peacefully. In many situations they were open to it to the extent that was reasonable, for example in the case of the hungry orcs and goblins. I was really happy to see the roles being played in a manner which reflected the actual desires of the group. The Chuggsy mod was pretty straightforward, though enjoyable. The crazed fog mod was exceptionally done, both in terms of difficulty, threat and atmosphere. The hunting mod was executed rather well, and I really enjoyed the area where we played it, I hope to see that area used more often. I really enjoyed fighting against Marco, every time I saw him I knew a fun fight was ahead. Plot's support of our prayers was wonderful and I know both Shaman and I appreciate your feedback on them (as well as Cassan's). The NPC roles in general were very enjoyable and believable. I found that the smaller nature of Ralinwood compared to Jericho allowed for a far more natural interaction with them, which made the interactions feel more genuine. Cons: Mod wise, I only ended up going on the hunting mod. I was also a bit disappointed with the lack of mods after the fog attacks as well. I understand why that occurred (I think) and think it will remedy itself going forward. Please note that I have excluded almost all of my RP opinions from this review, because I am trying to keep it mostly relevant to what the owners/shapers/season NPCS want to know about their performance. To keep it brief however, I had the best larping experience I have ever had with respect to RP, and plan on staying in Ralinwood for a very long time. Keep up the great work everyone! RE: "Just a Matter of Business" July Event Reviews - Ludvic - 07-28-2014 I've shared my con's with Matt Flynn and Brian Agate if shapers owners want to follow up. -No Daphne -No Ange -seemed like a lot of injuries -/+quite a few holds for glasses falling off. Perhaps some of those strings to help them stay on your head or fall around your neck would help? +I'm glad the games went over well. I was concerned about the energy level of many people at the time. We had a lot of tired people who had too much heat by then to want to run around. +Capture of the blue swan at breakfast +Guarding moon, sounds easy, Chubs attack, not so easy afterall. +Berserker attack was awesome, People were running all over, A well timed stone skin allowed people to get away. I was pleased. +Mods collide! Can't elaborate +Craft time +Draconian! RE: "Just a Matter of Business" July Event Reviews - Andrei Katrares - 07-28-2014 Pros: + Our camp. It didn't ever feel like there was 'downtime' because our camp was just always fun be in. Thanks so much for everyone who came out and stayed with us. + Murder Bear and Undead Turf War + Sparkle Time + The Rain + Wave One of the Final Battle - I felt bad for probably being the weak link in the group but we crushed it + Vizier Moon Moon-fist of the Moon Tower Mage's Guild + Challenge rating. Things were tough, and I really appreciated that. I was tripped, breached, beaten to bleed 3 or 4 times in just a single mod, shot with a body execute (good stuff Hollander!), and I don't own a single shield that doesn't need to be repaired. I spent 15 minutes hiding under the wooden ramp by a cabin. Our resources were heavily taxed and that made it all the more satisfying when we managed to come out on top, which I wasn't sure we were going to manage to do at certain points. I almost voted for Chuggsey(?). + New PCs! I loved interacting with all of you folks. My character can be a bully sometimes so I apologize if I rubbed you the wrong way and it made your experience less enjoyable out of game. I encourage you to hold it against me in game, and I think I will have to re-visit how I approach some situations as Levi because I don't feel comfortable knowing I might damage someone else's game experience. + NPC Camp! You guys were into your roles, enthusiastic, and at no point did I feel like NPCs were going through the paces instead of trying their best to entertain us. It really shows and we really appreciate it. Also Brian and Matt are very good large-weapon fighters. RE: "A Gentleman's Wager" July Event Reviews - Sierra Katrian - 07-28-2014 Thank you guys for a great event. I am sad that I didn't get to RP with Ted or Heather, but I will do it next time for sure! I had fun killing you all, lets do it again soon. (07-27-2014, 07:46 PM)Silv Wrote: Cons: Please, please, please don't rely on having tap water on hand. Please bring enough bottled water to sustain yourself, and use the tap water as extra if you need it. This isn't to say that you are not allowed to use the taps, but if it is inconvenient, please supply enough bottled water to sustain yourself. A lot of LARPs don't have the luxury of running water, and we shouldn't take it for granted. RE: "Just a Matter of Business" July Event Reviews - Valkez - 07-28-2014 I have to say, again and again, Ralinwood continues to impress me! I love the people, I love the plot team, NPCS, everything is so well done. You are killing it for your first year! Pros + Our camp is way too much fun. I love everyone in it and love our interactions and RP. + Getting to roleplay and hang out with a group of larpers I've always looked up to and respected. And being able to save their lives a couple times! + Moon's grove turned out really nicely despite the horrible (best) timing ever with the chugsy attack. I'm pleasantly surprised at just how many people were willing to help defend me and the Grove! Every time I heard "protect Moon!" during the ritual I smiled! + Getting to meet and hang out with so many new people! It was nice to meet all of you and had a great time roleplaying with everyone. + Sparkle Time, Murder Bears, Lord Vintner, and all the other hilarious shenanigans of the weekend! + Lune! (Loon?) and the rest of the kobolds that came into town. All praise Moon the Great Kaboom? + As mentioned above, plot team continues to impress. Very happy with your plots, NPCs, and the way you handle mods and situations. Very well done to you all! Overall I had a wonderful time and can't wait until I can come out again! Moon is one of my favorite characters to date and nothing made me happier than having people come up after game and tell me how much they enjoy him Cons: - Next event conflicts with Jericho! RE: "Just a Matter of Business" July Event Reviews - quintus - 07-28-2014 Quintus has returned to that hell hole called jericho and hopefully taken something awful back with him but only time will tell. i had a great time it was awesome for my character to get out of jericho for a little and to meet an old friend! i don't think it was much of an issue but i know it may be a concern to some players so i will address it. My character at event had access to a few pieces of gear that someone in ralinwood would be unlikely to possess (namely my shield)the shield was legendary quality but feel free to read the rulebook for what that means and i think you will find that while it is super cool its rules are very tame. also for those who helped quintus complete his mission there is at least one sword of comparable quality to what i was using. and to put another little rumour to rest my character was only level 4 which puts in the top rung of PL in ralinwood but not over it. also Acid sucks and so do the undead (i'm lookin at you Dave) i've been gushing pro's since i got home so i'll give a bit of criticism and an explanation for why i think i understand why it happened. cons: muggles driving their mechanical demons passed the most frequented area of the game. happens because the site owners have a right to live on their own property. down time during saturday, i have heard people complaining about it but i am almost possible that the reason it did was because we had at least two heat related injuries and when the shapers looked outside they saw people sprawled on the ground in the shade. heavy wave battles and other things were post poned and timed for later which led to the action packed afternoon and evening, this was harder for the npc's and shapers and i can appreciate why it happened. i cannot wait to play my ralinwood character again! RE: "Just a Matter of Business" July Event Reviews - Suhaib - 07-28-2014 Thank you everyone Pro's. Run: It's been a very long time since I've really had a heart pounding sprint for my life. Had 2 on Saturday. Fight: Had only fired an arrow once in 12 years before this weekend. Loved playing the archer. Kudos to the NPC's. Some great RP to the hits, as well as outstanding endurance in that heat. We'll done all. Hide: Zombies. That is all. + the feel of Ralinwood. It's different there. Relaxed, and yet just under the surface there's a whole pot of upset just waiting to break out. + the 3 nobles. Loved the interplay between the three.....and their oathsworn. + Wizard, Pipe, Troll. Hysterical. + Emerald Company. You guys rock. Thank you for the hospitality and for being awesome people. + 1st wave of capture the mercenaries. WINNING! + final wave of mercenaries. 'We are here to accept your surrender!!!!' + to everyone who helped Niki when she got sick, and for not hassling me about going out of game to take care of her. Can't say enough how much that means. Finally, massive plus to Providence. So much fun, so many smiles that my cheeks are almost as sore as my legs....almost. Cons? Nothing to do with the game or site or anything like that. Couldn't have asked for a better welcome to a new chapter. Thanks everyone
RE: "Just a Matter of Business" July Event Reviews - Leit Khan - 07-30-2014 I had a great game. Your shaper team is awesome. It's an incredible feeling to watch another UW guild and take notes on how I can improve mine. Loved all the interactions I had with other pc's. It sounds weird but it's actually hard to roleplay with players I don't know, simply because I haven't had to do it in well over 10 years. I found I had to push myself to interact and talk to strangers, IG, and not just hang out with my friends I know OOG. I'm happy I did. All the mods I went on were well thought out and balanced. I spent more time this game hunting down single NPC's running in and out of the woods than I did fighting large scale battles. A number of times I asked myself "How the hell is he moving around in that thick bush so fast and so quiet. I'm looking at you Matt Flynn and I think Marco. Loot sucked for me this game but I was archering it up for most of the weekend so searching kill was difficult. The loot was there, I just saw other people get it so that's not really a complaint. My only con really was it was a bit quiet Saturday night. I saw some assassins floating around but nothing large scale. I also went to bed fairly early. Otherwise 8 outta 10 in my books. Murder bears! |
