No race or class has any restrictions unless specified. For example Fire Elves (located in the Soul Frag Book) have Armour restrictions. Wild Elves also have an armour restriction.
So no. No restrictions.

Wild elves and metal armour restriction is also a thing. Otherwise its whatever you have money to buy / rep / wear.

You are the man. I have a hard time remembering that they exist.

thank you. so would it be unusual for a druid or mage to wear leather armour?

Not at all. I've seen mages and druids wearing leather, brigandines, chainmaille, plate, and anything in between. The only real exception is wild elves not wearing armour with metal on it.

Only other thing to keep in mind is purchasing weapon skills with your character points (CP) is much more expensive for scholar classes than warriors. So although you CAN have a sword as a mage, it's expensive to buy the skill to use it and raising its damage is exceedingly expensive in terms of your CP. If you want a medium weapon as a mage, it's best to buy it from the beginning.

does the price of a medium weapon skill go up as the game goes on?

You only ever need to purchase the use of medium weapons once. Ever.
Buying damage for your medium weapon (weapon specs) stays the same price forever, but will be a higher price for Scholar Classes, and much much less for Warrior classes.

No, but as your character levels up, you will earn less CP per game as that character. So at first, 80CP is a bit steep but it becomes much steeper as tine goes on
