Dex is standing in front of a tree near the far right cabin. A is log hung by a rope from the limb of the tree with a four foot long pole tied to the log, pointing outward and slightly up to represent an outstretched weapon. Dex holds his sword in front of him, strikes the pole, causing it to turn the log and slashes the log with his his scimitar. As the log swings back, he turns his blade again, blocking the pole from hitting him and pushing it away to strike the log again. He then takes a step back and walks over to a nearby stump. Sitting on the stump is an old, withered and slightly dusty book depicting pictures of different stances, parries and strikes with a curved blade. Dex flips the page over, unable to read the words but studying the images carefully before returning to his practice dummy.
Calidonia, while finishing her daily run, comes up to where Dex has set up his training dummy. She slows to a stop, panting lightly.
"Hey Dex, what are you doing?"
Dex focuses on practicing a particular swing and goes back to his notes, "Studying. Trying to get this without being able to read doesn't make it easy."
Calidonia notices the book for the first time, and looks at the page it's turned to. She then shrugs it off.
"Why not practice with a real person instead of a log? You cannot truly learn to fight from a book."
"Have to practice edge alignment." Dex says, swatting the pole and leaving a slice in the log, "No sense practicing on other creatures if my strikes don't land properly."
"Alright." She nods, before turning away from Dex. "If you change your mind, and want a real sparring partner, come find me later. Good luck!"
She smiles at him and waves, before continuing off on her run.
*A bottle comes flying out of the tree line aimed for Dex* "
Strike this properly! "
Dex spots the flying bottle in time to swat it out of the air with his sword. He then looks to the bushes where it was thrown from, "Is that proper enough?"
*shruggs* Yea be the one with the fancy book ye tell me.
